The Storm

This morning's ride was nice -but getting caught in a downpour on the way home was brutal (but cool).

Ladder #60 is my safe haven. When I run home, I stop here for a drink of water and some friendly chit chat. If ever I need help on Gunston, this is where you will find me.


I found a new road in Detroit to take; a lot of homes are being burned or torn down. On this street, as you can see, almost all is back to nature.


The Layfayette Building is next to be torn down in the D. It sits across the now posh Book Cadillac.

The most interesting fact about this gem is that it was designed so that no matter where you sit in the office building, you have a window view. See how the architect cut an inside slice of the building for the peeps in the inside cubicles.

I hope they do not knock down the Layfayette coney place. That is where my bus stop is and sometimes, if I am early, I have been known to sneak in there for a dog before going home. Yummy!

Now for the way home.... Look it's getting dark and the clouds are rolling in.

This is the last pic before I had to hide the cam equipment. The rain was thicker than pea soup, the winds were howling at 20 mphr, and the roads where flooded to my pedals. Did I stop and get on the bus? This isn't amature hour here, tuck in and plow forward full steam ahead.

Manufacturing Row

Today’s route was on Gunston road. Instead of Schoenherr to Gratiot, I took Groesbeck highway. I know, it sounds like a busy road right? But reality is because of the down economy, all these manufacturing places are either closed or running a skeleton crew. Which means more road for me!

Here is a zombie plant. Right she is sleeping but once the autos start selling cars again, this little gem will be stamping away at whatever tool or die the autos need… right?

The neighbor hood on Gunston looks very cozy. Small all brick homes, oak floors, and plaster walls. It would cost a fortune to have a house built like today. You can buy one right now for 25 Grand. That is a deal!

Why the New Curbs?

Well here is a familiar landmark for many of my viewers. Based on all the comments I received, you like to see Detroit's best. Notice the sun just hitting the church.




















Again, no one on the road. I am heading down Gratiot at 7:00am. Any other city, I would be surrounded buy killers in cages (that is biker slang for peeps in cars)









Can anyone tell me WHY the state of MI is spending soo much money on new curbs. I know it has something to with the red bumpy stoppers on the ramp but really. If you can get your wheelchair up this curb, you are NOT getting in through the uneven sidewalk.










Look out Mr. Wheelchair, that is pothole you have to cross now that you made it up the new curb.










Today was record time for me. I made it from my house to the office in 1 hour flat.

I stayed on Schoenherr rd (not sidewalk) until 10 mile. Then I had to ride the sidewalk until I crossed 8 mile - then all road again :-)

Another Great Day for a Ride

All clear and no one around. I think I am going to break 20mph on this road.















I pass this hotel on the way. It is on Chene road. I often wonder what type of peeps stay here now but I bet in 1952 on opening day, the owner was proud and of this. I wonder if any celebs stayed here?










This is what the hotel looks like from afar. If someone bets me $500 I can Lisa to stay here, I will take the offer.

The Flight

The ride to work today was fantastic. I rode in on a Boeing 747 to Wash DC








I had to walk up 4 long blocks in Dupont Circle to hit the hotel. That is 4 blocks uphill. I was sooo sweaty by the time I got to the room. Put the air on 60 degrees and cooled off.

Look, I am not the only one who commutes on bicycle. In fact, biking is very common in big cities. Funny how I instantly relate with this dude parking his bike. He is one of us, haha.


My lunch companion on a porch of a bistro looking over K street and 19'th in DC. If you go, get the cinnamon cream cake....yummy!

Look, I met the money honey. She was standing right next to me in line to get in the white house. I bet she gets in further than me.

Wings Fly By

Friday and the morning was very warm and the sun was calling for the Harley. So I donned the Winged Wheel and set out for a ride to work.














A Wings Fly By is called for on this special day.

The Spirit of the D is must and see, yes?

These cats are behind enemies lines - but as it turns out, they got the last laugh.



















Laura's dance recital is today so I could not stay long.

Eminem shooting a video

Last night, I was working on issues at the office until 7:30pm so no workout or bike home - I jumped on the late bus home.

But I did go out to eat to Forans across the street . I had a couple of pints and fish/chips. On my way back to the office about 8:30pm I saw Eminem shooting a video across the street on Monroe. I stayed for an hour and watched. It was pretty cool. But he looks skinny, pale white, and weak. Not good.



Here was my morning ride on the 10 speed bike. Look, it is 7:30am and NOT ONE SOUL in the city!! You have to be kidding me, what is happening here?

This is where I saw Eminem shooting his video. The inside of this theater is still in good shape. The stage is there along with what once was a beautiful ornate balcony on both sides of the stage.
